About the Artist

Hugh Buchanan, born in 1958 in Edinburgh, is a renowned artist with a passion for architecture, nurtured during his studies in Drawing and Painting at Edinburgh College of Art. Since graduating in 1981, he has left a significant mark in the art world. His impressive commissions include works for the National Trust, the House of Commons, and a series of interiors of Balmoral, commissioned by the Prince of Wales in 1987.

Buchanan's talent and expertise are showcased in prestigious collections, including the Victoria and Albert Museum, Edinburgh City Art Centre, and several prominent banks. Notably, in 2002, he was commissioned to paint the Lying in State of the Queen Mother at the Palace of Westminster. His international presence was solidified through exhibitions in Spain and the United States, along with retrospectives by the National Trust and appearances at various historical festivals.

Dedicated to the preservation of cultural heritage, Buchanan has contributed his knowledge and expertise to several arts and heritage committees, cementing his status as an influential figure in the artistic community.
